Male infertility Treatment

Pre-testicular problem : Thyroid dysfunction

The thyroid gland has a major role in male reproductive functions. Hypothyroidism that is a low level of thyroid hormone can produce an excess level of prolactin. This has negative impact on testosterone( Male hormone responsible for fertility)

High prolactin level (Hyperprolactinemia)

Male infertility can result from high prolactin level. This is called as hyperprolactinemia. The impact of prolactin level on testes can cause the production of sperm to fall.

Erectile dysfunction

This is a sign of conditions like stress, lack of confidence etc. This can cause inability to keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. Men with spinal cord injury face this problem which results in infertility

Varicocele

One of the common cause of male infertility is a varicocele. It is a swelling of veins that can cause low sperm production and unhealthy sperm. This can be treated by assisted reproductive techniques like IVF(in vitro fertilization).

Ejaculatory failure

Retrograde ejaculation(Ejaculation into the bladder instead of a penis) and anejaculation (Failure of ejaculation) causes male infertility.

Oligoasthenoteratozoospermia

It is a condition that includes low sperm count, difficulty in sperm movement, unhealthy sperm. Steroids, certain painkillers, Antibodies such as virus bacteria, abnormal hormone levels results in oligoasthenoteratozoospermia. Which directly result for male infertility

Testicular Infection

Testicular infection like inflammation of testicles, Gonorrhea when to interfere in sperm production can cause scars that block passage of sperm. These Infections sometimes cause permanent testicular damage.

Post-testicular problem : ( Tuberculosis/ Surgery)

Tuberculosis is a type of infection in men reproductive tract including testis, epididymis, vas deferens, efferent ducts. Obstruction of efferent ducts due to scarring or inflammation from tuberculosis cause infertility. Sometimes injury forms the surgery can block tracts that are involved in fertility like testicles. Tubes, epididymis, vas deferences, ejaculatory ducts.

Thermal factor

Normally scrotum in men has a lower temperature than other parts of the body. That is scrotal temperature should be 1 to 2 degrees Fahrenheit less than the body temperature. In some conditions like in the case of varicocele, Hydrocele, Filariasis using tight undergarment, working in the hot atmosphere makes Scrotal temperature be raised this interface men's fertility.

Here are some of General factors or causes responsible for male infertility are,

Chronic diseases

Chronic diseases like heart diseases, diabetes, gonorrhea, typhoid, influenza, smallpox can reduce sperm count causes infertility in male

Malnutrition
Smoking, Alcoholism

Men who consume alcohol may have a low testosterone level that can cause the lower production of sperm and sperm cell motility. The Same problem can be seen in men who smoke. Which affect fertility in men

Toxics and Radiation

Exposure to toxins such as pesticides, lead, paint, radiation, Chemicals, Radioactive substances ( Substances that produces alpha, beta, gamma rays) reduces sperm production.

Endocrine - Hormonal imbalance

Disorders like Pituitary tumors, hypothalamus, Anabolic steroids abuse causes testicular shrinkage which results in sperm decrease hence male infertility

How can male infertility problem be diagnosed?

Some Investigation- In male fertility includes,

Semen analysis

This is most important fertility test, it involves testing semen samples. This is done to detect the level of white blood cells, sperm count, Movement of the active sperm cells called as motility , size and shape of the sperm called as morphology. Increased number od white blood cells cause a problem in sperm production and movement.

Transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)

This test is done to check for the blockages in Tubes, epididymis, vas deferences, ejaculatory ducts, seminal vesicles that carry semen.

Hormone estimation

Certain hormone play role in sperm production such as Follicle stimulating hormone(FSH), Luteinizing Hormone(LH), Testosterone hormone, Prolactin and thyroid hormonal tests are done.

Testicular biopsy
